Meet Guppy
In 2015, Captain Jay found the boat that matched his seafaring dreams, passion for sailing and love of the sea. Guppy, a Dana 24 built by Pacific Seacraft was the boat. This “big cruiser in a small package” captured his heart and they’ve been together ever since, exploring the waters from Joy Bay, in Maine where he grew up, to Nova Scotia and finally settling on the waters of Long Island Sound. If you’re a sailing fan, you’ll love Guppy’s classic styling and comfortable motion. If you’re new to sailing, Guppy’s strength and stability has been known to create sailing fanatics who keep coming back for more! We can’t wait for you to join us on the water to enjoy this special boat!
about the dana
The Dana 24 was designed by Bill Crealock, the renowned sailing yacht designer. It was said that Bill took all of his hard earned experience gained from a lifetime of creating and sailing yachts and put it into the meticulous design of the Dana 24. It is well-balanced and fast for it’s size with a sea kindly motion typical of Crealock yachts. The full keel with cutaway allows a shallower draft and access to waters larger boats (and even some of the same size) cannot while maintaining nimble handling. The Dana’s design now has a cult following and always turns heads in the harbor with its classic bowsprit and teak accents. Sailing Magazine proclaims the classic charm goes below deck as well “where the saloon exudes the warmth of hand-rubbed oiled teak, with teak joinery and cabinets above a teak-and-holly sole." We welcome you explore everything this beautiful little cruiser has to offer both above and below decks. We can’t wait to have your on board!
what to expect on board
Whether you want to relax on the foredeck, sit on the stern pulpit seats (the best views onboard) or join the action in the cockpit, Guppy has something for everyone. Below deck, you will find the homey conveniences of a stainless steel sink, two-burner stove with oven, and a small table with dinette seating. There is also a head (bathroom) available. The v-berth forward is perfect to enjoy a quick nap underway on longer trips. We also have a small ice box so your drinks and food will stay cold for you to enjoy on your outing. Sailing is an active way to get around. The decks are seldom level, water can spray over the bow and the sails sweep over the deck when we change tacks. So keep a hand on your drink and an ear out for occasional instructions and you’ll have a great time.
